Programs

Ancestors

With this program we offer you a musical experience through which we will explore the invisible thread that connects us to our ancestors. Composers such as Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Elgar and Holst show us how music can become a living connection with our ancestors, passing on their wisdom and spirituality.

From the roots to the sky

Program that shows how traditional music and “auteur” music are interrelated, by revealing how the roots of the latter lead to the sublimation of melodies that are both popular and refined, thanks to the work of great composers.

In the shadow of Lore-Ley

Program based on Romantic works mostly inspired by the myth of Lore-Ley.

LAUDI ALLA VERGINE MARIA

A selection of songs based around sacred texts that make reference to the Virgin Mary. The figure of the Virgin Mary has greatly inspired many composers, bearing fruit in the form of this beautiful sampling.

Mosaic music

This concert is formed by undoubtedly spiritual works, although the two halves do not share thematic content. While the Schubert’s Psalm 23 and Guinovart’s Missa could be considered to be part of the tradition of Christian texts, the second work, “There will come soft rains” includes a message of denouncement regarding gender violence by men in contrast to nature, which lies indifferent to this behaviour. The second half begins with three texts related to the moon, a religious symbol in some cultures and protagonist in many of García Lorca’s texts. The concert concludes with a selection of songs by Eduard Toldrà that Jordi Domènech has adapted for choirs of same voice and piano in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the composer’s death. Pieces with texts by various Catalan authors and by Quevedo.

Música per a l'esperit

This concert celebrates what could be considered to be different aspects of spirituality, from the themes of festive Christmas of Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, to various aspects of spiritual texts, including liturgical music and contemplative poetry.

Poetic Landscapes

Profane music

Program constituted by four supporting axis, all of them based around music that we feel is close to us. Music that touches us through either the proximity of its popular roots, through present-day composers and composers of the 20th century, or through genres as moving as Opera, Zarzuela, Musical Theatre, or Jazz.

Sacred music

Sacred music mostly from the 20th and 21st centuries, except Schubert and Verdi, two gems that couldn’t be missing in this program made up of intensely moving pieces, despite being of a small format type. It includes works “a capella”, some accompanied by piano, and some double choir pieces. Although many are dedicated to Mary, mother of God, they have been selected based solely on musical and artistic criteria.

Scherzo & Guinovart

El concierto tiene una parte dedicada a algunas de las obras más representativas de los 30 años del coro, y la otra, dedicada íntegramente a la figura y a la obra de Albert Guinovart.

Tribute to Victoria de los Ángeles

Manuel García Morante and Albert Guinovart were accompanying pianists to Victoria de los Ángeles at different given moments. Regarding their work as composers, the Scherzo Female Choir offers two of their compositions. Additionally, a selection of some of Toldrà’s most beautiful songs remind us of his relationship to the soprano. Victoria is the epicentre of the relations to the composers included in this program.

Vivaldi at La Pietà

In the early 18th century, when Vivaldi’s musical trajectory began, Venice had lost its great economic potential but, regardless, was still a center of attraction for visitors who were taking the “grand tour” of Europe, thanks to its special location, its architecture, and, above all, its culture regarding the art of painting and music.

Voices for Solidarity 2018

The voices of the Scherzo Female Chamber Choir and the Sant Esteve Choir unite in order to contribute to the work that the Association of Social Volunteers of Vila-seca carries out.
